The region belongs to the strongest economic regions of Slovakia. It is especially active in the sector of small and medium enterprises - where there are over 6,500 business entities registered, employing more than 24,600 people. They primarily work in the machinery sector, agriculture and nearly 28% are engaged in retail trade, restaurant and hotel services. Apart from companies like Yazaki and Nestle, the biggest foreign investor in the region - Novacke chemicke zavody, successfully employs up to 3,000 people.

Trencin, the capital city, has a high profile courtesy of its international trade fairs and exhibitions - the most popular is the fashion trade fair Trencin - mesto mody and offers many opportunities in the tourism industry, especially restaurants and hotel facilities. Declared a ‘Historic Reservation’ in 1987, the city skyline is dominated by Trencin Castle and the late baroque houses and renaissance architecture represent a magnet for tourists.
